Game Recap And Line-Ups
Last night the Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 4-3, and yes you can breathe now...
Starting
Livan Hernandez was brilliant, he came out in the seventh inning with just 75 pitches, which was insane, and he kept them off the board allowing only one run. He used that slow almost whiffle ball curve ball to keep them off balance all night, and he could be the Mets third best starter right now. He was throwing strikes all night long as he had a great Strike:Ball ratio.
Bullpen
Bobby Parnell relieved Livan in the seventh with two on one out, and he got out of it with only one run allowed, and it was charged to Livan. He used that fastball effectively to overpower hitters and get them scared at the plate. Then in the eighth inning the Mets brought in JJ Putz who got another shot at Chipper, and he got him. In the ninth Frankie Rodriguez got the first two outs, then allowed a hit a walk, and got a pop up to Delgado, but he dropped it! And at this point I am going into panic mode because Yunel Escobar followed with a hit to make it 4-3, but then Frankie got Chipper Jones to fly out to Ryan Church to end the game.
Offense
Beltran extended his hitting streak to sixteen games, and is more than half of the way to John Olerud's Met record of thirty. Reyes got a hit in the ninth for the second straight night, and would score in what would prove to be two HUGE tack on runs. Carlos Delgado had that two run single of of the lefty closer Mike Gonzalez to make it 4-1. David Wright did well and Castro had a three hit night.
