Game Recap And Line-Ups

The Mets on the backs of John Maine and Carlos Beltran got a 6-4 win.

Starting

John Maine pitching six, yes six innings of three run ball versus Atlanta, and looked very sharp.  He has not had a quality start (six innings three runs) since July 23rd of 2008 versus the Phillies, when he went seven innings of three run ball, I saw him being more aggressive and really settling in and looking comfortable on the mound, throwing his fastball up in the zone, and not getting discouraged after a rough second inning where he allowed three runs. His line was: 6 IP, 3 ER, 6 BB, and 7 Ks.

Bullpen

The Mets' pen only had to go three innings last night, and did it almost flawlessly, first they brought Parnell in who threw a scoreless seventh, throwing 98 MPH at one point. Next JJ Putz came in and allowed one run on a home run to Chipper Jones, his fortieth home run against the Mets of his career. He then allowed a double with two outs to Brandon Jones, but would get out of it with no more runs allowed, then Frankie Rodriguez came in, and as usual slammed the door shut for his sixth of the year, he is now six for six in save opps this year.

Offense

The Mets offense looked very sharp last night scoring six runs. Carlos Beltran increased his hitting streak to fifteen games with two two run home runs. David Wright snapped out of his slump with a moonshot home run to left center two batters after Beltran made it 3-2. Jose Reyes tried to bunt again, and got it down, but not well. In the ninth he ripped one to left and stole his second base of the game.
